In 1777 Thomas Paine walked the streets of colonial York contemplating the "times that try men's souls." While Washington was at Valley Forge, it was in York's Colonial Courthouse that the Articles of Confederation were drafted and adopted, uniting the thirteen original colonies.

York is the White Rose City and a city of many firsts. The first steamboat and coal locomotive produced in the United States was made in York. The first town West of the Susquehanna River; this Nation's first Capital, and the first place the words "United States of America" were spoken.

York County is a balanced community of both urban and rural experiences. The citizens of York have a history they are proud of, as rich as York is in history, it is rich in diversity as well. Although we don't have a large minority population, it is growing and will continue to grow and represent significant business potential for area businesses and employees, customers and suppliers.

York is considered a great place to raise a family, with a low cost of living, moderate climate, low crime rate and small town charm.
