A special message about Workforce Development

Having a world class workforce available to York County businesses is a top priority of the York County Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber's Education and Workforce Development strategy is long-term and includes many community based partners. Chamber and member workforce development initiatives include; business education partnerships, school-to-work, adult and continuing education, employability skills training, recruiting non-traditional workers, internship and mentoring, and internet access to workers and jobs.

Workforce Investment Board
This website is designed to quickly distribute information on the state's implementation of the federal Workforce Investment Act of 1998 and to provide a forum for emerging questions and answers about the act.

MANTEC
This site focuses on three main areas:
· Creation or improvement of human resources infrastructure within a company;
· Development or improvement of workforce development programs through skills gap assessments and design of programs that meet the assessed needs of a company's workforce and strategic business goals.

William F. Goodling Advanced Skills Center
The Advanced Skills Center is a training factory that embodies a system of workforce programs and services affecting area employers and workers.

York County Alliance for Learning
YCAL is an alliance of education, business and civic organizations whose goal is to facilitate the development of a high quality, relevant workforce.

York County Consortiums
The South Central PA Manufacturing Consortia envisions the enhancement of the availability of qualified workers and was created as a result of the realization of a shared need among employers, as well as a desire to become proactive in creating a system to fulfill the needs of both employers and employees.

York County Economic Development Corporation
The YCEDC provides a professional staff to assist expanding and relocating businesses with site selection and serves as a conduit for public financing and other programs.

Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED)
This website recognizes the importance of workforce development and contains links to other sites useful in workforce development.

Critical Job Training Grants Program
This program awards grants for training of dislocated workers, for occupations with immediate skill needs, for high-demand jobs and for jobs with a shortage of skilled workers. Eligible applicants for training grants include school districts, intermediate units, vocational-technical schools, post-secondary institutions, local workforce-investment boards, businesses and public agencies that provide workforce services and activities.

The Training WORKS Partnership operates as a consortium of Business, Education and Economic Development Groups focused on serving the workforce development needs of Pennsylvania.

The Welfare to Work Partnership
The Welfare to Work Partnership was created to provide innovative workforce solutions for companies through hiring, retaining and promoting welfare recipients and other unemployed and low-income workers.

CDS Training Resources
CDS develops customized computer training programs for clients. They can assist you in achieving your company's performance objectives, by conducting employee needs assessments, then custom designing a training program that will meet your specific goals. CDS has training facilities or a trainer can come to your location.
