Having a world class workforce available to York
County businesses is a top priority of the York County Chamber of Commerce. The
Chamber's Education and Workforce Development strategy is long-term and includes
many community based partners. Chamber and member workforce development
initiatives include; business education partnerships, school-to-work, adult and
continuing education, employability skills training, recruiting non-traditional
workers, internship and mentoring, and internet access to workers and jobs.

The South Central PA Manufacturing Consortia envisions the
enhancement of the availability of qualified workers and was created as a result
of the realization of a shared need among employers, as well as a desire to
become proactive in creating a system to fulfill the needs of both employers and

The YCEDC provides a professional staff to assist expanding and
relocating businesses with site selection and serves as a conduit for public

Critical Job Training Grants Program
This program awards grants for training of dislocated workers,
for occupations with immediate skill needs, for high-demand jobs and for jobs
with a shortage of skilled workers. Eligible applicants for training grants
include school districts, intermediate units, vocational-technical schools,
post-secondary institutions, local workforce-investment boards, businesses and
public agencies that provide workforce services and activities.

welfare recipients and other unemployed and low-income workers.
